2005 Gathering : Under the Great Cross

Sustaining and Sustainable Spirituality in Australia Today - (173KB)
Author: Anne McPherson
Drawing on a range of authors including Flannery O'Connor, Kenneth Leech, and Gerard Hughes, Anne considers an integrated and engaged spirituality, a sustaining spirituality, and a sustainable spirituality in the context of contemporary Australian life. She concludes: "let us continue to explore and develop our own spirituality, but let us make sure it is never separate from our Australian context or from our daily life and work."

The Spirituality Revolution - (162KB)
Author: Peggy Goldsmith
In this paper, Peggy reflects on David Tacey's recent book, The Spirituality Revolution. She picks up on Tacey's consideration of issues like 'losing my religion, recovering the sacred', 'towards a new image of God', 'nature and spiritual renewal'. Peggy concludes with some reflections on 'telling our stories' as part of the process of deepening our connection with the sacred.

Moral Conversations and Enlarged Thinking - (193KB)
Author: Neil Holm
In this paper Neil reflects on the purpose of gathering and concludes that we gather to strengthen and encourage one another so we can then go 'outside the camp' to engage with the wider culture. He considers the diversity and plurality that exists within the Wellspring Community and in the wider context. Drawing on Miroslav Volf's Exclusion and Embrace, he outlines a process for engaging with people from other traditions whose viewpoints differ widely from our own. He calls this process 'moral conversations and enlarged thinking.'
